As the designated Center for Digital Innovation among SSM campuses, SSM Barcelona is constantly on the lookout for events that align with our mission of advancing urban transformation and digital solutions. This year, we had the opportunity to attend the Smart City Expo World Congress—a three-day global event held from November 5-7 that’s recognized as the world’s most influential gathering on urban innovation. The expo promotes social innovation, fosters partnerships, and reveals new business opportunities to shape a smarter future for urban communities.
Accompanied by our own Professor Aleda Kushta, a group of SSM students (from both BBA and MBA programs) explored the massive halls of the Gran Fira, where 1,150 exhibitors from across the globe displayed cutting-edge innovations in urban technology. Walking through the sprawling pavilions, our students were just a handful of the 25,771 attendees surrounded by world-class talent, groundbreaking ideas, and the latest technologies addressing the challenges of urban living.
Learning Beyond the Classroom Walls
The Smart City Expo gave our students a firsthand look at the future of cities, allowing them to witness how international industries are tackling today’s urban challenges. By participating in global events like this, they’re not just hearing about innovation; they’re experiencing it, engaging with thought leaders, and gaining valuable insights that will inspire their career paths.
Barcelona’s reputation as a hub for major international events provides a unique advantage for our students. This kind of exposure is priceless—an invaluable part of their education that transcends classroom walls, connecting them with real-world trends and challenges they’ll soon address in their future business careers.
As we look forward to the innovations ahead, we are proud to know that our students are prepared, inspired, and ready to make an impact.
