After an inspiring visit to the Smart City Expo, our SSM Barcelona students headed to the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit—a dynamic event spotlighting the future of tech and urban innovation. This year, the summit, held as part of the Smart City Expo framework, tackled some of the hottest topics shaping tomorrow’s cities, from energy and sustainability to mobility, Industry 4.0, healthcare, and even space tech.
Barcelona: A Global Hub for Innovation
Driving the summit was Barcelona Activa, the powerhouse business and tech division of the Barcelona City Council. Thanks to their efforts, Barcelona has become a magnet for global talent, entrepreneurs, and digital pioneers. With a ranking as Europe’s 3rd most desirable city for startups, the 5th best innovation ecosystem in the EU, and the 8th most attractive city for talent worldwide, Barcelona is undeniably on the map for aspiring innovators.
And here’s where it gets exciting: SSM Barcelona’s campus sits right in the heart of the 22@ district in Poblenou—Barcelona’s buzzing innovation hub. This area is a breeding ground for cutting-edge ideas and high-impact solutions tackling global challenges. Projects born here are tested, refined, and rolled out to cities worldwide, making it the perfect spot for students to immerse themselves in real-world innovation.

The Deep Tech Summit gave our students an up-close look at the technologies set to drive the economy over the next 20 years. From futuristic car exhibits to eye-opening talks from leaders like the Korean Hydro & Nuclear Power Company on energy’s future direction, every corner of the event sparked curiosity and inspiration.
